Research Activities

Research at the community-based research laboratory focuses on the key themes of: responsible consumption, waste reduction and resource recovery; social inclusion and gender equality; co-management of resources; social/solidarity economy; civic engagement and governance; policy implications; rapid assessments of assets and barriers to sustainable community development; participatory and community-based approaches; and, knowledge mobilization. These themes are presented graphically below, along with the administrative functions of project management. Under-pinning these research activities is a theoretical and practical commitment to community-driven processes. Community-based development is regarded as a site of bottom-up processes of change, and as a scale of epistemological academic enquiry.
